1. TITLE OF COURSE: PE2722 Water Safety Instructor
2. COURSE DESCRIPTION:Two credit hour lecture.  This course is designed to prepare participants to teach basic swimming courses and to promote swimming safety throughout their certification. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.  Pre-requisite: none

5. SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES:Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes.
   • SCCC/ATS Outcome #1  Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained from their reading to real life situations.
   • SCCC/ATS Outcome #2 Communicate ideas clearly and proficiently in writing, appropriately adjusting content and arrangement for varying audiences, purposes and situations.

   • Plan, conduct, and evaluate the swimming and water safety courses.
   • Maintain complete and accurate record and reports.
   • Develop a plan to keep knowledge and skills current.
   • Candidates will be competent in:
     • Use of audio visual equipment.
     • Delivering a classroom presentation
     • Conducting practice teaching.
     • Know the content of the WSI course.

10. METHODS OF ASSESSMENT:Methods of assessing the general course outcomes and the specific course competencies include class attendance, tests, and participation.

    SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by written examinations indicating comprehension of material read.

    SCCC/ATS Outcome #2 will be assessed and measured by small group presentations and short term projects/presentations.

    SCCC/ATS Outcome #5 will be assessed and measured by swimming skills tests.

    SCCC/ATS Outcome #7 will be assessed and measured by development of emergency action plans.
